20 Books Every Potential Minister Should Read

I was asked this past week what books I would recommend for any ministry leader/potential ministry leader to read. Here is my response.

Though I realize this is not an exhaustive list (by any stretch) here are the top 20 books that I would recommend to anyone going into ministry (particularly those going into vocational ministry in the US). I have a separate list of books that have most shaped my life and ministry personally, as well as a list of the books that I believe every Christian should read. These lists can be found on the BLDG 28 website, the first under my bio on the leaders page, and the second under my blog.

Books any prospective ministry leader should read:

1. The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan

2. Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem

3. Church Planter by Darrin Patrick

4. Biblical Eldership by Alexander Strauch
