An Update on Summer Missions
In June of this year a slew of B28’ers flew out to the Golden State to serve alongside of a church in Pacifica. The first few days were spent immersed in the community as the team served teachers and students at Cabrillo school through the construction of a fence, removal of debris, organization of classrooms with teachers, and sports with students. Then came our first VBS of the summer and God moved quickly and powerfully! The team spent three days communicating truths to the kids who came out, who in turn took those truths home to not-yet-saved parents. Through immersing ourselves in the community, serving at a special needs facility, and ministering grace to our brothers and sisters at Vintage Grace, the B28 team saw the hand of God move, and were comforted by the power of the Gospel.
Next up was our Discipleship Week at BLDG 28 in Clearwater. Many hours and much prayer went into communicating through the concept of “Heroes” the importance of worshipping and living for the ultimate hero, Jesus Christ. The children heard stories from the book of Acts, constructed crafts based around theme verses, and saw the might of God through numerous skits. All told we had roughly 80 children and 35 volunteers come out for our first Vacation Bible School.
Two weeks after the BLDG 28 VBS, I took a team of 17 individuals to Philly for a week of ministry with Grace City Church. A day spent in Camden serving and praying with the homeless, druggies, and prostitutes, an afternoon ministering at a youth center, and time invested in painting, cleaning, and working around Grace City were some of the ministry outlets that we were involved in. Once again, the highlight of the mission was undoubtedly the Vacation Bible School. Right in the center of the neighborhood of Wissinoming we sang and declared the glory of God, and by the final day 80 children had shown up to join in the anthem. We made great connections with the church and experienced firsthand the joy of connecting with the fit family spread across our country.
Finally, as August rolled around a dozen more from our church embarked for the African island country of Cape Verde. In 8 days our crew ministered in various outlets: an orphanage the first morning, two Vacation Bible Schools (one in Praia, another in Latada), and interaction with members of the church. We spent a great deal of time with Mike and Renee Skibinski (our missionaries) and were able to take in the work that they are involved in there.
For my church at BLDG 28, I cannot thank you all enough for buying into vision of missions that we hold so dear. Through your giving and prayer we were able to join in on the work of sovereign grace, as God swept through these locations and churches this summer. It was truly a blessed season and I am already looking forward with eager anticipation to next year.
