Residency Overview
The Director of College & Young Adults position is a 24-month pastoral residency is designed to train and form a future pastor to make disciples while advancing the church’s mission among college students and young adults. This role combines hands-on ministry leadership with intentional pastoral formation, theological training, coaching, mentoring, and team-based leadership development. This residency is intentionally designed not only to develop ministry competence, but to shape disciple-making instincts, church-centered leadership, collaborative ministry habits, and readiness for future pastoral ministry in a variety of ministry contexts.
Structure & Compensation
• Program Length: 24 months
• Start Date: Summer 2026 (Part-Time)
• Transition to Full-Time: January 2027
• Compensation: $28 per hour
• Expected Part-Time Commitment (Summer–Fall 2026): Approximately 25 hours per week
• Estimated Monthly Compensation (Part-Time Phase): Approximately $3,000–$3,100 per month
• Paid Time Off: 3 weeks annually (prorated during part-time phase)
• Reports To: Lead Pastor
Education & Training Benefits
• Tuition-free classes at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS), taught on campus
• Up to $5,000 per year in additional funding for approved educational or ministry training

Weekly & Ongoing Commitments
• Weekly Coaching: Pastor Sync Meeting with all Staff Pastors and Residents (Tuesday afternoons)

Internship Overview
The Student Ministry Internship serves to equip young leaders with a deeper understanding of God’s Word, a heart for service, and the skills necessary to make disciples in the church throughout college and adulthood. Over the course of three months (June-August), interns will engage in theological formation, hands-on ministry experience, and leadership development to grow personally and prepare for future ministry opportunities. By the end of the internship, participants will be more equipped to study and teach the Bible, serve in various ministry capacities, engage, develop, and deploy disciples of Jesus, and lead with humility, reflecting the example of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Structure & Compensation
• Commitment: 20 hours/week
• Compensation: $15/hour
This internship requires a commitment of 20 hours per week, including:
• Disciple Making: Event planning and Bible Study preparation (8 hours)
• Staff Participation: Weekly staff meetings and Prayer (2 hours)
• Theological/Leadership Formation: Reading, writing, and discussions. Assisting in Sunday services, church events, and outreaches. Assisting in event planning and Bible study preparation/breakout group leadership. (10 hours)
• Core Activities like Sunday Service, Tuesday Staff Meetings, and Weekly Bible Study are priorities. Additional hours are more flexible and can be responsive to student availability.
Disciple Making
This aspect of the internship focuses on practicing Christ-centered disciple-making. The Student Ministry Intern will be exposed to Bldg 28’s model of discipleship: engage, develop, and deploy.
Engage
• Establish relationships with students during Summer Bible studies and events.
Assist the Next Gen Director and Student Ministry Associate in personal discipleship contact with students on the ministry’s roster.
Develop
• Observe, discuss, and assist in Bible study preparation with the Next Gen Director in order to help develop students' love and understanding of God and His word.
Help lead grade specific Bible study breakout groups.
Deploy
• Help students understand and think through discipleship replication.
Staff Participation
This aspect of the internship is the most organic opportunity to learn. Student Ministry Interns will sit in on weekly staff meetings in order to observe healthy team work and leadership development.
• Participating in staff meetings, leadership development, and prayer/care sessions allow the Student Ministry Intern exposure of team dynamics and planning.
• Being invited to supplement and participate in various ministry events improve the appreciation for behind-the-scenes work.
• Following other pastors/ministers into more challenging opportunities (ex: a hospital visit) will prepare you to grow into ministry leadership.
Theological & Leadership Development
This aspect of the internship focuses on cultivating a deeper understanding of God’s Word, a heart for serving the local church, and leadership development.
• Read: Complete two books over the course of the internship (Christian Beliefs by Wayne Grudeml and Discipling by Mark Dever), exploring different topics on theology, discipleship, and practical Christian living.
• Write: Submit a thoughtful book review at the end of each reading, reflecting on key insights and applications.
• Discuss: Participate in (at least) weekly discussions to deepen their understanding of the material and receive personalized mentorship/shepherding.
• Serve: Serve during one worship service and attend the other on Sunday mornings, participate in one monthly outreach activity, and help with setup, breakdown, and other preparation for church events.
• Lead: Help plan and execute at least two Student Group events, help lead grade specific breakout groups, and lead one specific part of the Summer Bible studies (game, prayer, etc.) at least twice.
By the end of the Summer, the Student Ministry Intern will have learned and gained exposure in the following areas: a Christ-centered discipleship model, healthy teamwork and leadership development, gained theological and leadership development through reading, writing, mentorship/shepherding, and service. This practical learning and exposure is all in the hopes of helping cultivate biblical, healthy ministry leaders.
Internship Overview
The Children’s Ministry Intern will serve alongside the Director of Children’s Ministry to
support and strengthen our Sunday children’s programming while helping lay the groundwork
for a future pre-teen ministry. This internship is designed for someone who loves children, values Reformed theology, and has a sincere desire to make disciples of the next generation through faithful teaching, relational ministry, and joyful service.
Structure & Compensation
• Commitment: 20 hours/week
• Compensation: $15/hour
Key Responsibilities
Ministry Support & Preparation
• Assist the Children’s Director with preparing, organizing, and maintaining classrooms
• Prepare weekly materials and supplies for Sunday children’s services
• Help ensure classrooms are clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for ministry
• Assist with curriculum preparation and lesson support as directed
Sunday Responsibilities
• Serve during one Sunday service in the children’s ministry area
• Attend one Sunday worship service weekly
• Support volunteers and help with smooth transitions before and after services
Pre-Teen Ministry Development
• Work alongside the Children’s Director to help plan, dream, and launch a pre-teen
ministry
• Assist with age-appropriate programming ideas, logistics, and preparation
• Help foster relationships with pre-teen students and families
General Ministry Support
• Assist with special events, trainings, or ministry needs as assigned
• Communicate clearly and work collaboratively with ministry staff and volunteers

• A clear profession of faith and agreement with Reformed theology
• An earnest desire to make disciples and invest spiritually in children and families
• Interest in vocational ministry, education, or youth/children’s ministry
